Stephen Place (24), a fitter, died at Gordon Gill, Evenwood, on Thursday, from the effects of injuries received as far back as July 16th, 1878. It seems that on the date mentioned Place, while attempting to pass the engine at Trushwood Colliery, where he was employed, became entangled in the crank, and was severely crushed. He lingered on until Thursday, when he died as above stated.
