At the House of Correction Wakefield on Monday 8th Mar 1875 on view of the body of John Healey dec William Dyson Wood of 100 Northgate Wakefield surgeon say "I am assistant surgeon to the WR Prison, the deceased was 35 years old and a coal miner. He was committed on 14th Dec last for 6 months imprisonment for aggravated assault upon his wife at Wombwell. He was healthy and put to mat making in his cell in the first division of D wing. On the 17th Feb last he was put to a second class instead of a first class loom as he complained of weakness. On the 22nd he complained of diarrheoa and was sent to the hospital where he died last Saturday night at 20 minutes to 9 o'clock from Typhoid fever. He was insensable for about 48 hours previous to his death in consequence of serious effusion on the brain. His wife visited him on the 5th instance. He was able to take nourishment nearly up to the last." Verdict died from natural causes
